Bird and wildlife sanctuary, hiking and biking trails. Only 7 minutes away. Redwood Curtain Brewing Company is across the street from the trails and the town of Arcata is in walking distance from the marsh.

A favorite local spot. Lots of birds and other native wildlife like river otters. Check out the Interpretive Center if you get a chance, and learn about our world-renowned sustainable wastewater treatment plant.

This place is gorgeous. It is a wildlife wonderland. It is also walking distance from Chapman House Arcata via the L Street walking trail.

The Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the City of Arcata’s innovative wastewater treatment facility. The sanctuary is 307 acres, including freshwater marshes, salt marsh, tidal sloughs, grassy uplands, mudflats, brackish marsh, approximately 5 miles of walking and biking paths and an Interpretive Center. By integrating conventional wastewater treatment with the natural processes of constructed wetlands, Arcata has succeeded in turning wastewater into a resource.

The birdwatching here is excellent! Early Spring, the city hosts "Godwit Days" for viewing thousands of migrating Godwits. This is a great place for short hikes and picnics. It also features the Arcata wastewater treatment plant, where water is ecologically cleaned and returned to the sea.
