Visiting the lake at Parco Regionale del Lago Trasimeno, Italy is a great idea for a day tour. It Is the largest regional park in Umbria. The territory extends along the perimeter of the lake Trasimeno and includes three islands : Polvese Island, the largest, owned by the Province of Perugia , which is used as a center for learning and study environment; Isola Maggiore , the second in order of magnitude , which is a pretty fishing village dating back to '400 , Isola Minore , private property. The natural aspect of the park is a wetland of great importance . The lake, nestled among the rolling hills of Umbria has always represented an important area for waterfowl wintering , resting and reproduction , and for a perfect habitat for fish species live and reproduce. The coastal centres , small fishing villages, mowing of reeds still done by hand , give a dimension outside of time of these places. Fishermen, the true character of Trasimeno , which have always animated and alive with their particular boats plowing the waters of the lake, challenging even the most terrible storms, are the true keepers of the secrets of this special natural treasure. Their dedication to these waters, generally handed down from father to son, and their knowledge of lunar phases, has always made these mythical figures or particularly into the natural - lake.

Il territorio del lago Trasimeno, lago d’origine tettonico strutturale, grazie alla grande varietà di ambienti, è una zona umida d’importanza internazionale che ospita una comunità animale ricca e diversificata. Il Lago Trasimeno, a circa 257 metri sul livello del mare, è il quarto lago d’ Italia per superficie (126 kmq), unico grande lago laminare, ossia caratterizzato da acque estremamente basse: al centro del bacino esse raggiungono appena sei metri e mezzo di profondità. FAUNA: Probabili incontri notturni con volpi, cinghiali, daini, caprioli, tassi, istrici, ricci. AVIFAUNA: Dal punto di vista ornitologico il lago Trasimeno è un sito di eccezionale importanza. Le specie segnalate sono 199, di cui 79 nidificanti nell'area protetta.

Il Parco è lo strumento per tutelare e valorizzare il Lago Trasimeno. Il maggiore dell'Italia peninsulare Oltre allo specchio d'acqua è compreso nel Parco tutto il sistema spondale che lo circonda ivi compresi i centri storici minori e maggiori come quelli di Castiglione del Lago e di Passignano.
