Bristow's Klingensmith Park is a large city park on the west side of Bristow. The park was developed in the mid 1930's as a New Deal project. The park is named for Cpl. Peter Willis Klingensmith (3/19/1895 - 10/24/1918), who was the first Bristow resident to lose his life in World War I. The park offers tennis courts, a skate park, disc golf, and areas to walk, jog or bicycle. Central to the park is Lake George Horany. Fishing is permitted here, and non-wake watercraft. The Amphitheater, erected in 1936, was constructed by the New Deal's Works Progress Administration as a remedy for unemployment during the Great Depression. The entertainment venue remained in use throughout the period of significance, 1936-1966, is unique to the park and to Bristow, and continues in limited use.
