Maine Coast Heritage trust and Blue Hill Heritage Trust offer numerous hiking trails throughout mid-coast Maine. We recommend getting their trail maps or check All Trails app. Waldo Mountain South trail in Frankfort is the closest mountain hiking trail - sweeping views of the coast of Maine!

The Trust oversees a variety of locations around Maine. On the Blue Hill Peninsula they maintain Jed's Island in Blue Hill (great for kayaking), Lookout Rock (spectacular view of the Penobscot Bay and islands), as well as Big Babson Island (scenic island preserve that can be visited on its own or as part of a longer itinerary that includes stops at other nearby conserved lands) and Hog Island, once owned by E.B. White, author of "Charlotte's Web," in Brooklin.

MCHT has many preserves and hikes to check out. An excellent alternative to the bustle of Acadia. The website is searchable.
