Take an Amtrak train ride. A great way to see the coast north or south. You can even take a quick trip to nearby towns, like kitchy Carpenteria.

This is the Amtrak station, very centrally located with trains going north and south. The Pacific Surfliner (San Luis Obispo - Santa Barbara - Los Angeles - San Diego) and Coast Starlight (Seattle - Portland - Los Angeles)
