Did you know that Valencia is the home of paella and they even grow their own paella rice. Take a trip to Albufera and walk through the rice paddies, spot the herons, snowy egrets and frogs. Enjoy a boat ride on the stunning, peaceful lake and enjoy paella cooked on traditional wood fires so typical of the region

It is located only 10 km from the city. The main attraction is the large freshwater lake of 2.800 ha, the largest in Spain. Nature in its purest form, dreamy sunsets, boat rides and disconnection in capital letters. Like an urban oasis surrounded by rice fields and forest. Take a walk along one of the six marked itineraries of the natural park. Discover the rich birdlife with up to 300 different species that take refuge here throughout the year, especially waterfowl that spend the winter in the park such as flamingos. In fact, L'Albufera is recognized as one of the Ramsar wetlands of international importance. A boat ride is the best way to get closer to the birdlife, and also to relax in this wonderful natural environment. At dusk, the reddish and golden tones of the setting sun give it a truly magical atmosphere. You will find piers in the Gola de Pujol and in the ports of Catarroja, Silla, Sollana and El Palmar. The ride is done in craft boats called albuferencs, and lasts about 40 minutes. You can also book excursions that combine a boat ride with a visit to a typical barraca, and, of course, enjoy the most famous Spanish dish an authentic paella. How to get there? You can do it through lines 24 and 25 of the EMT urban buses. Line 24 takes you to El Palmar and line 25 to El Perellonet from the center of València, in less than an hour and for only €1.50 each way. Both lines are free with the València Tourist Card. You can get off at the Embarcadero or El Palmar stops and enjoy a traditional boat ride on the L'Albufera lake. You can also go to the park by bike from Valencia. You have a bike lane parallel to the V-15 road that covers the entire route. The most active can even dare with the Vuelta a l’Albufera by bike, a 78-kilometre circular route from Valencia, crossing the marshland rice fields and the coastal Mediterranean forest, and exploring the ports and fishing villages around the lake
