Each day, more than 2000 people use Papakura train station. It is the third busiest station after Britomart and Newmarket. Work on Parpkura Station included refurbishing the old heritage building, upgrading platform amenities with new canopies, furniture and lighting, enlarging the Park n Ride, creating a new bus interchange and constructing a new platform on the western side of the station. KiwiRail rearranged the tracks to provide a dedicated freight line through the station and optimised track and platform layout in preparation for electric trains. The station will also function as an interchange for diesel shuttle trains to and from Pukekohe.
