Certaldo in the center of Valdelsa, a few kilometers from Florence, Siena, there is a beautiful city: Certaldo. It has two different faces: in the lower part economic activities and residential expansions are concentrated; the upper part, on the other hand, houses a characteristic medieval village completely intact, with its alleys, its towers and its terracotta brick walls. Certaldo is also the homeland of Giovanni Boccaccio, who, between 1313 and 1375, spent various periods of his life in the medieval village. Today his house houses the "Casa del Boccaccio" Museum and seat of the National Body, named after him. In addition to the Boccaccio waterfall, the medieval citadel has unique monuments, views and views. Here you can see the Palazzo Pretorio, with the adjacent Church of Santi Tommaso e Prospero, inside which the Tabernacle of the Justice by Benozzo Gozzoli is located; the Church of Saints Jacopo and Filippo, which preserves the remains of Giovanni Boccaccio and Beata Giulia Della Rena; the three ancient gates of access to the village, still intact, which, in addition to allowing panoramic views, allow you to go down to the lower part of the village through the ancient steep streets.
