Just a half-hour west of Ames is a wonderful old train ride that kids and adults all love. In the fall, the colors changing provides a colorful background for a train ride in the hills of central Iowa.

I recommend a visit to the Boone and Scenic Valley Railway because it’s an amazing experience for the whole family. Take a scenic ride, on a train pulled by an old steam engine, over the trestle bridge above the Des Moines River Valley. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and very exciting! Then, take some time to visit the railroad museum at the train station.

Not only a museum but also a working old style train that will give you a breathtaking ride over the Kate Shelley High Bridge that spans the Des Moines river. It's a really enjoyable time.
