In Montmartre, the place Emile Goudeau plays on the sloping pavement in the shade of chestnut trees. Despite the crowds pressing, the place retains a certain charm. A Wallace fountain refreshes the many loiterers who babble in all the languages of the world. The view of Paris at the bottom, almost in the valley, is spectacular. Famous for its city of artists, Le Bateau-Lavoir which housed the beginners who later became glories of the art of the end of the XIXth century and the Early 20th century artists such as Renoir, Picasso, Modigliani, Reverdy, Derain, Braque, Max Ernst, the Dadas ... Painters, sculptors, writers, poets and theater people made here the artistic star of Montmartre.
