Gede Ruins is a 12th century Swahili Village, making it a fruitful historical and archaeological site.
Gede Ruins is a 12th century Swahili settlement that was mysteriously abandoned around 600 years ago. You can hire a guide at the entrance to show you around. As well as being very interesting it is also surrounded by beautiful indigeous forest with lots of great bird life and very curious Syke’s Monkeys. Well worth visiting early in the morning or late afternoon when it is cooler.

Nestled in lush rainforest, Gedi was one of the ancient Arab towns along the East African Coast, which was probably rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. Today, visitors can tour the ruins where the Great Mosque, the Palace, coral-stone houses, and pillar tombs have been unearthed.
