The State Park is incredible. There are several well maintained trails that climb up Kesugi Ridge adjacent to the Alaska Range. On clear days, the views are stunning!

Beautiful state park offering hiking trails (Kesugi Ridge is my favorite) and a lake for paddling (canoe rentals available on the shore of Byers Lake). If you walk the lakeshore trail to the other side of Byers Lake, you get great views of Denali on a clear day. If you climb Kesugi Ridge, the panorama of Denali National Park is stunning. Denali State Park is an hour and a half drive from Talkeetna on the way to Denali National Park.

Denali State Park offers many trails and sight-seeing opportunities. A few of these trails are the Cascade Lake Trail, Byer's Lake Loop, Ermine Hill Trail, and the Curry Ridge Trail.

The park is about 45 miles north of Talkeetna and is divided roughly in half by the George Parks Highway, the major road link between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Situated between the Talkeetna Mountains to the east and the Alaska Range to the west, the landscape varies from meandering lowland streams to alpine tundra. Dominating these diverse terrains are Curry and Kesugi Ridges, a 35-mile-long north-south alpine ridge, the backbone of the eastern half of the park.
