The National Gallery of Art's sculpture garden is free and open to the public daily. They feature Jazz in the Garden every Friday evening in the summer... don't forget a picnic blanket!

On a nice day, this is a great place to take a break while visiting the Smithsonian. Beautiful sculptures and a fountain which is great for cooling off your tired tourist feet. In the winter, it's also an ice rink.
