The miqweh, located 18 meters below street level, in the basement of a patrician building that now houses a hotel, and fed by pure spring water, is among the only ritual baths in Europe that retain its integrity and charm to this day. Members of the Syracuse Jewish community used to dive into the waters of the miqweh to "erase their sins." Inside there are also vestibules formed by arches carved into the rock and other tubs (one of which is made from an ancient Greek aqueduct) placed inside niches near the main room of the Miqweh.
