After being buried for hundreds of years, the first chunk was discovered in 1966. It took 21 years to dig and assemble hundreds of pieces of "puzzle" from the stone before finally Sambisari Temple was successfully reconstructed.

this temple is special since it was buried for hundred years due to merapi eruption. tons of soil was excavated to reveal it. instead of going up, we need to go down the stairs to enter the candi area. small one, but unique, located in natural and quiet neighborhood. it closes at 5 PM. there is a famous food stall nearby, soto bathok mbah katro. you just need to walk a couple hundred meters to the north. it is a good place to try typical delicious and cheap jogja food in a traditional setting with great paddy field scenery.

Dekat dengan Candi Sambisari atau biasa dikenal candi pendem karena letaknya di bawah permukaan tanah. Untuk melihat secara utuh bagian candi kita bisa menuruni tangga yang tersedia dari berbagai sisi.
