Pretty Cottage, built in c.1880, lies in the historic gold fields town of Talbot. Lovingly restored with period features, the cottage sits just a short distance from the centre of the town. The town boasts a monthly Craft and Farmers' Market, an award winning Provedore and Eatery, an observatory, pub, book store, vintage shops, post office/general store and is close to the Pyrennees and other beautiful wine producing areas. Pretty Cottage is approximately 140 years old. It is a small and cosy cottage that has two bedrooms, a laundry facility, a full kitchen, a bathroom with a step-in shower, bath and spa, a lovely generously sized garden and spacious outdoor entertaining areas.
The main bedroom boasts a large open fireplace, ideal for brisk winters and romantic nights. The second bedroom has French doors that lead out onto its own private deck and garden, with two chairs and a table. The laundry features a sink, washing machine and vented clothes dryer together with washing detergents, complimentary for your stay together with a large fold-down washing line located outside. 📡📡📡 WIFI 📡📡
PLEASE NOTE : TELSTRA is the ONLY carrier that works, albeit sporadically, in Talbot.
As of 13 December 2019, Telstra Wifi is included. A smart TV, G00gle Chromecast, DVD player, HDMI cable, Sony bluetooth music system together with a selection of DVDs and books are also provided for your use and leisure.

🚘🚗🚙 PARKING 🏍🚎🛵
There is no parking on the property, but off street parking is plentiful EXCEPT on market days (third Sunday of every month), so please park in Chapman Lane, located behind Pretty Cottage, where a gate leads into the back garden from the lane. The gate requires a very hard push/pull (depending on the weather) to open and close. There are also two umbrellas provided for guests' use, on rainy days, and these are located at the entrance of the cottage.
Talbot is now a quiet old gold mining town of approximately 400 people. During the Gold Rush, it is estimated that Talbot's population was upward of 30,000 people, and 100 hotels!
According to local historians, Pretty Cottage's site was once a 'tent pub' and a few artefacts were discovered when digging garden beds within the back garden. These items of interest are housed in the drop-down-desk inside the cottage for your perusal.
🏨⛪️🌅 THE TOWN 🏡🏘🏦
Talbot now boasts a multiple award-winning 🥇 Provedore and Eatery that is open from Thursday through to Sunday for breakfasts, morning/afternoon teas and lunches, and dinner every Saturday night. We advise pre-booking a meal.
Talbot’s Court House Hotel/pub run by Reiny and Barry, also serve delicious dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and is a vibrant place to be when busy, so a visit is highly recommended and pre-booking is also advised.
Pretty Cottage is also mentioned in Narenna Bloomfield’s article in the ‘Daylesford Life Macedon, Autumn 2020, Volume 3, Issue 1, supplement located in The Age newspaper on Saturday 15 February 2020.

🚌🚌🚌 PUBLIC TRANSPORT 🚈🚈🚈
The new Talbot railway station is fully operable and usually runs twice a day (week days) from Maryborough to Ballarat and back. There is also a bus service with two bus stops - one near Chesterfield House and the other outside the old railway station. However, both train and bus services need daily checking on V/Line due to regular maintenance.
🥤☕️🍽 MARKETS 🌽🥕🥒
The Craft and Farmers' market is held on the third Sunday of every month and draws approximately 3000 people. Here you will find anything from fresh farm produce to handmade goods such as hand bags (made by Ingrid), hand made soaps, live entertainment, bric-a-brac, craft items, quality nursery plants and plenty of food and coffee.
⛏💰 GOLD FOSSICKING 💰⛏
Fossicking for gold is also a popular recreation and enjoyed by many gold-detecting enthusiasts. The world's largest gold nugget, the 'Welcome Stranger' was found 150 years ago in Moliagul (approximately a 45 minute drive away from Talbot)! So bring a metal detector down - you never know what you may find! Two gold-fossicking booklets are also provided for use, but remain the property of the cottage.
🧖♀️ SPA/Masseurs 🧖♂️
Maryborough (a 10 min drive from Talbot) has a masseur, but does not offer a mobile facility.
However should you require a mobile masseur, I can organise this should the masseur be available.
Daylesford (a 40-45 min drive from Talbot) offers both, spas and masseurs.
