Venice has been much more "island" than what we are able to imagine today while we admire it in all is splendor. Venice has always had a complexity of life, expecially in the past, very different from the mainalnd despite its proximity; the city was full of shops and "fonteghi" (warehouses) located at the ground floor of every house between the alley ("calle") and facing the canal. These work places and traiding posts allowed the flourishing of commerce, craftmanship and the cit'y self-sufficiency. The renovation of these particular places, nowadays left unused, are now passion of deeply fond of tradition architects. That's how "Casa Ruiz" was born, named after the Ruiz family, who owned a southamerican coffee and spices company dealing with venetian merchants. the house was used as warehouse for coffee, spices, ceramic an metal artifacts. The building is not very high, horse shoe shaped with an opening on the fondamenta and the canal. It was partly divided and partly lifted up recently but the charm of the place is intact, mostly due to the private courtyard that the house embraces. The renovation has unveiled all the typical characteristics of this kind of buildings: enormous windows in every room, an exit on the courtyard and massive beams painted on the high ceiling, with walls that are now and then interrupted by intertwining chimeys used for the processing of roasting coffe beans. at the moment "Casa Ruiz" is a comfortable house located in an interesting part of the city, for those guests who hope tp get to know a difference Venice, within its squares and alleys eternally the same. It will be easy to reach the usual tourist-attraction places and at the same time to take shelter in a quiet space as the backyard at home. From Treviso airport: I suggest you to take the ATVO shuttle bus to Piazzale Roma (about 50 minutes ride) and from there the waterbus line 1 to Ca’ Rezzonico stop (45 minutes ride). From Piazzale Roma parking area or Santa Lucia train station: I suggest you to take the waterbus line 1 to Ca’ Rezzonico stop (45-40 minutes ride). From Tronchetto parking area: you can take the waterbus line 2 to San Basilio stop. IN 3 MINUTES BY FOOT YOU CAN ARRIVE AT CA REZZONICO IN THE GRAN CANAL AND THERE YOU CAN TAKE THE WATER BUS LINE 1 Campo Santa Margherita is AT 2 MIN FAR BY FOOT FROM THE APARTMENT , just in the center of the district of Dorso Duro and is one of the liveliest corners of the city. In Campo Santa Margherita are concentrated many clubs that are frequented both in winter and in the summer thanks to the tables placed outside bars, pubs, restaurants and pizzerias. In Campo Santa Margherita you can still see the Venetians intent on their daily lives, but also watch the children playing in the afternoon and on Sundays. Campo Santa Margherita is one of the larger open places in Venice after St. Mark's Square and Campo S. Polo. This square is celebrated for its night life. Here is consumed spritz (a local drink) during happy hour and beyond. For this reason Campo Santa Margherita, (along with Campo S. Giacometto at Rialto), is the favorite place in Venice for young people but also for many tourists that enjoy the friendly atmosphere of this square. The square is named after the ancient Church of Santa Margherita, founded in the ninth century and dedicated to that martyr. It was rebuilt in 1687 by architect Giambattista Lambranzi. The Church of Santa Margherita was abolished in 1810 because of the Napoleonic reforms and was used for a period as a cigarette factory and then as a store of marbles. It became evangelical church in 1882 and later became a cinema, known as Cinema S. Margherita or in Venetian dialect "Cine Vecio", to distinguish it from "Cine Novo", once located where now is the Supermarket Punto. Actually it is an auditorium (+39 041 2349911) owned by the University of Ca' Foscari. Incorporated into the building you can see the typical belltower so truncated in 1808. At its base are located some interesting marble fragments of the seventeenth century, among these are visible a dragon and a sea monster. On the facade you see a beautiful tabernacle, "The Virgin adored by brother on her knees", (1501). Near it is open in the morning (from Tuesday to Saturday) the fish market of Campo Santa Margherita. In front of it are some notable houses dating from the Gothic period. At the end of Campo Santa Margherita is situated the Church of Santa Maria del Carmelo also called "dei Carmini", which was built in 1286 but retains some nice outside paterae in Venetian-Byzantine style. Inside you can see a cycle of 24 paintings (12 per side) called "Episodes of the Carmelite Order". The apartment is inside the church called "Chiesa di SAN GIOVANNI ELEMOSINARIO" one of the oldest churches in the Rialto area built in the 11th century, the only church saved from a fire that broke out in the 15th century and by 1700 it had become the priest’s house. The apartment is completely renovated and is a 2 minute walk from Rialto Bridge. It has 2 bedrooms, big living room with fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom has a shower with chrome therapy.
