During your visit you should go to Santa Teresa, the artistic neighborhood with beautiful old mansions up in the (cooler) hills. In Santa Teresa, my favorite spot is Parque das Ruinas: stunning views of Rio from an interesting unfinished building (which is also a cultural centre). Also good to have a coffee!

The Museum of Tomorrow, located in the spectacular modern building designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, has amazing views of Guanabara Bay and is all about sustainability and the future of our planet. These important subjects are shown in a very cool & interactive way, making the museum interesting even for kids. The area around (Praça Mauá) is also always full of life: many food-truck festivals with music, etc.

One of my favourite places in Rio! In this beautiful park (with an amazing view on the Christ Statue above), industrialist Henrique Lage constructed in the 1920s an Italian-model "palazzo romano" for the love of his life, an Italian singer. Now an ideal spot to have breakfast or brunch. For the adventurous ones: from Parque Lage, a quite steep 2-hour trail goes up to the Christ Statue.

Rio is famous for its "lanchonetes": little corner-places where you order a fresh fruit juice & snack, very informal, just standing around in your beachwear or before/after going out.
The best in town, only using fresh & many exotic Brazilian fruits, is BB Lanches in Leblon.
My two favourite juices: açaí with banana and suco de abacaxi com laranja (pineapple & orange). Favourite snack: salgado de queijo com banana (cheese with banana).
