You can get amazing burritos and street tacos anywhere in the Mission, but my personal favorite is Taqueria Cancun at the corner of 19th and Mission.

Without a doubt, the best Thai food I’ve had is at Lers Ros. They have 3 locations throughout the city, including locations in the Mission, Tenderloin, and Hayes Valley. This place is incredible.

You’ve got to go to Mission Chinese on Mission Street between 18th and 19th. It’s kind of a hipster place, but it will rock your world. It’ll have long lines for dinner on the weekends, just warning you. But lunch should be easier.

Yes, Burmese food. You must try it. The place to go is Burma Love on Valencia Street near 13th. You can’t make reservations, but the wait isn’t usually bad. You have to try their tea leaf salad or their rainbow salad and the samusas. They will shock you with how good they are.

You should try what are called papusas. They are native to El Salvador and are so good. It’s basically a thick cornmeal pancake stuffed with cheese and other goodness. You can find papuserias all over the Mission, but my favorite is D'Maize on 24th Street.

Go to Franchino’s in North Beach. This is the most adorable, delicious Italian food I’ve had in the city. The same Italian immigrant couple has owned this place since the 70s, and their 4 daughters all work there too. It’s quaint and unpretentious, but the food is tremendous and so fresh. Get the bruschetta and whatever wine they recommend. They do take reservations, but the wait usually isn’t bad. Also good: Tosca and Trattoria Contadina.

You must try Tartine in the Mission. It’s at 18th and Guerrero, and there will most definitely be a line out the door. But the wait is worth it, and the line moves fast. There are few places I think the line is worth it in SF, but this place is the exception. It’s considered the best gourmet bakery in America, and you’ll see why. I’d give you a recommendation, but basically anything there is going to be tremendous. Update: they also opened a much larger cafe in the Mission called Tartine Manufactory, and it's equally delish.

Sadly, Chad doesn’t share my love for sushi. So I don’t get to eat it very often. I've tried Izakaya Kou in the Fillmore, and it’s so good. I recommend the sea urchin sushi. $10 of pure goodness. It’s an awesome ambiance and great sake as well.

I suppose you’d classify this restaurant as California Mediterranean. Whatever it is, it’s tremendous. It’s considered one of the best restaurants in SF, if not the United States. And the ambiance (including old films being projected onto the walls) is second to none. I’d recommend getting a reservation now if you want to visit here, but it’s totally worth it.
