Good pub excellent staff food is cheap and cheerful. Kirkoswald is named after king oswald who was given sanctuary by the Picts before being killed in battle by Penda in North England.

Picturesque, historic with attention to detail makes this place one of my favourite places to wine and dine. Robert Burnes attended school on the site of Souters and had many a drunken night with his friend John Davidson the local Cobbler (Souter). Walk around the old Graveyard opposite Souters and find the graves of Robert’s old drinking cronies. (4 miles from Whitestone, located in Kirkoswald, KA198HY.)
