Known as the burial site of Christ's mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region. The present structure was completed in 1029 by the medieval Georgian architect Arsukisdze, although the site itself dates back to the early fourth century.

You need a day to see Svetitskhoveli and Jvari in Mtsketa. You'll be hungry and you'll be in the right place to indulge yourself! Salobie in the old capital is cheap and it has the best Khinkali, Mchadi - corn bread and Lobio - kidney beans. Don't go to one of those newly built, wanna-look-posh restaurants in Mtskheta, visit Salobie for a truly Georgian experience!
