This is my favourite place to eat crab, ever. It's out of the way in Northern Singapore and few tourists ever make it all the way out here but they serve (in my opinion) the best black pepper crab and chili crab in Singapore. Also, the crab is comparatively inexpensive. It's not a fancy restaurant like more famous ones you'll see in your guidebook, it's more like a coffeeshop but that doesn't mean the food isn't just as good, if not better. Call ahead to make reservations on weekend nights.

Ban Leong Wah Hoe is my wife's favourite secret of the north. Located in a landed housing neighbourhood on Casuarina Road, it's one of the best cooks of Singapore's signature Black Pepper and Chilli crabs served at one of the lowest prices per kilo. Make a day trip out of it - come early in the morning for roti prata at the Indian stall next door. Then take a little hike into the Lower Pierce Reservoir just around the corner, immerse yourself in our balmy tropical rainforest. Take a cab up to the Singapore Zoological Gardens at Mandai just a short ride away. In the evening, take a cab back down to Ban Leong for crab dinner.
