If you are looking for an authentic shopping experience I recommend walking through the Mercado Hidalgo. This market is centrally located and roughly a 10 minute walk from the airbnb. You can find fresh produce, and just about everything else that you can think of!

The second floor sells all kinds of gifts from 15 pesos small gifts to 250 handcrafts. I personally like the mugs they are selling. It is very cheap (40 pesos about?) and unique designed. There is also a place sell coin purse that you can put your name or your friend name on it. However, Guanajuato is a late city. The food market is opened early on the first floor, but there aren't many stores opened before noon on the second floor!
