This small town is in the hills situated between the two forks of the American River.

Cool is the biggest "town" 4 miles from Pilot Hill. There is the market and also a gas station and liquor store, as well as a handful of restaurants.

Cool provides an excellent access point for easy access to the Auburn State Recreation Area. Events include multiple marathons, and the Tevis Cup.
