St Columbia Falls is about a 30 minute drive from St Helens, It takes about a 15 minute walk to reach the falls via a defined track. The falls cascade down about 90m, one of Tasmania’s highest. The walk to the base of the falls is definitely another highlight. It takes you through cool and shady rainforest that has some of the tallest treeferns you’ll see anywhere. Once at the lookout you’ll crane your neck as you watch the South George River tumbling down in a delightful series of steep cascades. Return uphill via the same track. Keep an eye in the river near the base of the falls and you may spot a few small trout. You can get lunch at the Pyengana dairy cafe and taste some lovely cheeses. There are other waterfalls in the area and further information is available at the St Helens tourist centre and at Seahouse.

This is a great day trip! Start with a short walk to St Columba Falls, then stop at the Pyengana Cheese Factory for an ice cream, after head over to the Pub in the Paddock for lunch and make your way back to St. Helens. Stock up with some nice pre-cooked meals from the Providore Shop and settle in your villa for drinks whilst watching the waves from your villa. St Columba Falls plunge nearly 90 m from the Mt Victoria foothills to the valley of the South George River. The falls can be viewed from the carpark and a short walking track provides easy access to a viewing platform.
