If you are traveling to Helsinki, you will probably end up at Helsinki Railway Station or Steissi as locals call it. Helsinki Railway Station has been the hub for traffic in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area since 1919. Trains take you to the airport, to Lapland and all the way to St. Petersburg. Switching to the bus, subway or tram is easy. However, the Helsinki Railway Station is not just a terminal for Finnish train traffic. It is a historically significant building and a true example of style by architect Eliel Saarinen. There are also numerous events around the railway station throughout the year, and in the winter, an artificial ice rink will be set up on the Railway Market for keen skaters.
