Welcome to Aquila Cottage which is directly on the Hadrians Wall Path, Pennine Way and Cycleway Route 72. The cottage is in an unparallelled location just 150 yards from "the best bit" of Hadrians Wall at Walltown Crags and directly opposite the Roman Army Museum. There is a bus stop right (services include AD122) outside. We are perfectly located for walking, visiting the sites along Hadrians Wall, stargazing events at Walltown & Twice Brewed as well as visiting the lakes & Scottish Borders

The Pines Treehouse @ Treetops Hideouts

The Pines Treehouse is nestled underneath a huge oak tree sitting high above the running water of Sand Beck. Nature cocoons you and you can reach out and touch the trees, see wildlife all around you amongst the pines. With breathtaking views through the tress and across the valley you are completely private having no other accommodation on the site making this a truly unique and special experience. A great effort has gone into creating this space to allow you to simply relax and reset in nature.

You may want to stay and enjoy the views & seclusion, but we are also ideally placed for day trips to the Lake District, the magnificent cathedral city of Durham, and Hadrian's Wall. Swinburne Castle is perfectly situated within its own beautiful parkland and gardens. Traditionally decorated, parts of the house have tremendous history dating back to the 12th century. The east wing is extremely comfortable and private, and don't be perturbed by the stone steps leading down to the vaulted cellar. A delicious continental breakfast will be provided in your rooms. There is ample parking and a tennis court you are welcome to use. lovely footpaths from the house for keen walkers.

This cosy property has it's own private spa. Newly built for 2024, the spa area forms the entrance to the property featuring 2 seat hot tub, rainwater shower and feature original stone wall with lantern roof window. This beautiful hideaway is completely hidden from view, overlooking rolling velvet farmland of the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty and has been refurbished to an extremely high standard with attention to design and detail.

The Rookery

After much research, I think this cottage was likely built somewhere in the 1500's. It has quirky uneven walls, VERY LOW BEAMS (TAKE CARE) upstairs made from sailing ships that travelled the world. There's no kitchen, but is a dining room with small fridge, microwave, air fryer, sink, kettle, crockery, cutlery and tea making things. *DOGS* Please keep dogs off the bed and furniture as the dog hairs just spread over everything in the washing machine.
