Food Scene

While your here you should try out some of our favourite local eats. We are so lucky to have the famous Kishorn Seafood Bar directly opposite the Kishorn Kabin, the best local seafood produce you will find in the Highlands! Many of our guests eat here, especially in the evenings when you can enjoy a bottle of wine & walk back across the road. If you are a coffee & cake lover, you must stop by the Bealach Cafe a real hit with us locals. Another great Cafe is the Waterside in Lochcarron, Lisa caters for a wide variety of dietary requirements e.g Coeliac, Vegan & Veggie. For evening dinner try the Lochcarron Bistro, (10 mins drive from Kishorn Kabin) a cosy establishment where you will be served superb food . Just 20 minutes to the next village of Sheildaig is the Coastal Kitchen at the Tign An Eilean Hotel. They do great locally smoked salmon, woodfired pizzas and the bar downstairs is filled with local characters. Just 40 minutes away (taking in the views of the famous Bealach Na Ba) is the Applecross inn. It's busy in the summer but always great food! The Carron Restaurant (about 20min drive) is a hit with our children who say they serve the BEST chips around. John the owner is very knowledgeable about whisky and stocks over 60 single malts from regions all over Scotland.
Excellent Coffee, amazing smiley and friendly staff and great service. Sharon the owner is a fantastic host and the Gallery has many local arts and crafts to purchase. All the cakes are homebaked and are delicious.

The woodfired pizzas are amazing, as well as some of the local smoked salmon. The views across to the Island opposite Shieldaig are very bonnie too. The Pub downstairs is a great place to meet local lively folk.

Great locally and sustainably sourced seafood. A small and unique restaurant just opposite the Kishorn Kabin. We recommend the Squat Lobster Tails - you only get them here in the west coast of Scotland. Tricky wee things to catch and fairly elusive, so when they do have them in - You must try a bowl of Squats!

Amazing locally sourced food cooked by Steve an excellent Chef. It's small cosy restaurant & very relaxed. If he has the Lobster or Crab pot on the menu - I totally recommend it (it's a whole wok full to the brim with seafood). You'll be working on it for hours!

Wind down after the hairpin bends of the the famous Bealach Na Ba road which takes you to the village of Applecross. They brew their own beer, good sized portions of traditional pub fair served by friendly staff. If you come in the winter (off season) you'll enjoy a woodburning stove & locals at the bar.

Our children say they serve the BEST chips ever! But it's not just chips they serve, the menu is seasonal and locally sourced. The poached egg and Black pudding is a hit, as are the steaks. John the owner has an incredible knowledge of whisky & stocks over 60 single malts.

The Gille Brighde Restaurant is is an absoulte favourite of ours. This is where we take our friends and family when they come up to visit. The serve sustainable and exceptional local produce. The journey to Lower Diabaig is a marvel and rivals the Bealach na ba. If you have the time, a must but you will need to check ahead for opening times and booking in advance is advisable.

Parks & Nature

Gardens open to the public from April - October. This is a very special place to visit with an artists view of the garden. There are some remarkable sculptures too. A favourite place of ours to visit when family come to visit us.

We just love everything about this village. There is a lovely walk/trail just behind the school which takes you for walk right along the peninsula. Great views across to Skye and on a good day you may see the Western Isles too. The sea water is pristine, lots of sea urchins, starfish and my daughter even saw a Sea Hare there too!

Sand Beach is an amazing place to visit. Us locals take our sledges and sledge down the huge Sand dune there. A great activity to do no matter what age you are! The drive up the Bealach na Ba is exhilarating and not for the faint hearted. We recommend packing a picnic for the day out and then stopping off for dinner at The Applecross Inn or Walled Garden.

Attached to the Cafe is the Bealach Gallery. I highly recommend visiting as the arts & crafts are ever changing. From fine art, prints, pottery, jewellery and many other locally sourced crafts. One of my favourite local artists is Aileen Grant from Lochcarron who often has works of art for sale here. We have a wonderful print in the Kishorn Kabin.

Sightseeing

Treehouse: Lochcarron has it very own special secret very few people visit. It's our community Treehouse, equipped with woodburning stove and tree/coffee facilities. I often use this as a venue for group workshops I organise e.g Storytelling, Bushcraft, Woodturning. It's tucked up behind the Smithy site suspended above a stream, overlooked by woodland. It's a magical place which can be hired from as little as £5 per hour. Bookings are made by email at bookingthetreehouse@gmail.com or 07563909356.
