I suggest you go to Piazzale Michelangelo for the sunset.
Piazzale Michelangelo. There is a beautiful view of Florence and his river, amazing view during the sunset. Many tourists bring something to drink. You can go there with the number 13 bus ( the closest stop is in Piazza Ferrucci) or you can go there by foot along the river until Porta San Niccolò, and then you can go up at the Poggi's fountain, that is below the Piazzale Michelangelo.
