One of the coolest waterfalls that's way off the beaten track. Definitely bring a picnic hike down the 1/4 mile trail and plan
a picnic lunch. It's an out of the way 'local' waterfall where you can spend the day swimming and relaxing

Kosk and Hunt Hot Springs are actually in Big Bend on the
river and you can jump from these springs into the river
for a chill. I'm a hot springs afficianado and this is one of my
favorite. You need 'secret directions' but they are in my
home manual! Oh, and they are totally FREE!

This is the World's Houseboat Capitol, and though it's a day trip from my house I do oftentimes spend time on the lake.

Shasta Lake

One of the least visited parks in the system. It's scene of the
last Indian War in America. The Modoc War. Modoc County
BTW is the least inhabited county in California. During WWII
This was also where they had the Japanese camps. Very sad
and dramatic history and well worth a day trip!

Located inside and outside of Burney McArthur State Park there are two 'put ins' one in the park and one outside of the
park for speed boats. You can also rent watercraft inside the park so you can waterski, seadoo, paddle board, or any other
water craft until your heart is content! If you're going into
the park you can get food at the general store and down at
the lake.

Located inside and outside of Burney McArthur State Park there are two 'put ins' one in the park and one outside of the
park for speed boats. You can also rent watercraft inside the park so you can waterski, seadoo, paddle board, or any other
water craft until your heart is content! If you're going into
the park you can get food at the general store and down at
the lake.
I say this is touristy and a secret spot because it's on the map
but everyone seems to drive past it and the most people I have ever run into is about 8 and on most days you have
the cave to yourself to explore. Make sure you have flashlights obviously, but you start on one end and you can walk through to the other!

I say this is touristy and a secret spot because it's on the map
but everyone seems to drive past it and the most people I have ever run into is about 8 and on most days you have
the cave to yourself to explore. Make sure you have flashlights obviously, but you start on one end and you can walk through to the other!

There's a 40 foot jump (and higher for true daredevils) to cliff jump and this is one of the places Red Bull Super Star Robert Wahl the hippest Free Style Cliff Jumper in the business got his start. He's a Burney Native and this is the place he practiced the gainers and 'double misty's' that have made him an instagram sensation. If you want to see youngsters in the sport coming up this is the spot! I love packing a lunch and just hanging out and watching locals jump.

This whole town is off the beaten track, but it's like a living history museum. Much of Chinese culture in the Goldrush meet right here because this is where they housed the Chinese who built the railroads. All kinds of museums, shops, and restaurants. I love this little town. Even has a Buddhist temple!

This whole town is off the beaten track, but it's like a living history museum. Even though I clicked the touristy box on the PCT Pacific Crest Trail it's just because it's often why people from countries all over the world come to hike this iconic 2,650 mile trail that runs from Mexico to Canada, and takes in some of the most scenic parts of California, Oregon and Washington. It was even the subject of a recently movie: Wild, starring Reese Witherspoon based on the # New York Times Best Seller by author Cheryl Strayed who wrote about her 1,100 mile hike of this trail. There are many places in the area where the trail crosses, some secret and some very public, like the part of the trail that actually runs directly through Burney McArthur Falls State Park.
