Set in a former private home with a beautiful garden, this up-market restaurant and pub attract an international clientele and many mixed groups. Wednesday nights are very popular as they have a quiz that night, created and hosted by the charismatic Simba.

This is our go-to place when we just don't feel like cooking. A quick peri peri chicken and chips with a glass of wine, and a bottle of water each, will cost in the region of Z$50 (eco-cash) for two of us, although prices are going up. And Michael gets to enjoy the match on a big screen too.

Just next to the supermarket, this indoor/outdoor spot is very budget friendly, does speedy breakfasts, good value lunches, and always with a smiling face. Recommended if you're looking for a cappuccino too.

Not cheap, but great for fish-lovers. The best calamari I've ever had. (It came from Argentina!)

Very organised. Circular bar. Open air venue for live music and also an indoor bar, pool and TV area. I wouldn't eat here, but great for a drink, and if you want to catch some local music.

Arts & Culture

This is where you'll get a sense of the rich diversity of artistic talent in this country, especially the sculptures. Check out the sculpture garden behind the gallery. There's a shop and café too.

If you have time and a vehicle, I'd definitely visit Domboshawa. It's a vast rock with a gentle incline and the goal of some cave paintings and spectacular at the top. Not a steep walk - your granny could manage it. Get to the top with your cooler bag and Willards crisps, and watch the sun go down. These days, it's become quite touristy, so now you have to pay! But only a couple of local dollars.

Handily down the road, Spar has everything you need, and there are other shops here too, as well as a sports bar/restaurant (which I haven't tried out.) Please also support the local vendors selling fruit and veg. They're great value and very tasty.
