Carmelitas is a small mexican restaurant open 5 AM (yes 5!) to 3 PM everyday but Sunday. Good prices and service. It is 1000 feet from the house.

This coffee and cafe is just down from the San Antonio Museum of Art. Great coffee, pastries and an ever changing menu of lite foods. I had their egg and avocado (avocados are a thing with me!) sandwich and it was outstanding.

Mexican food is good but caters to Tourist likes somewhat. Mariachi groups go from table to table and play for a tip. On Sundays they are in back room and play sitting together. I like that much better and they seem to like having an audience. The bakery has lines many times waiting to get a sugary treat that go from standard cookies to some of the best Mexican treats available.

I listed this as a bar but it is also a coffee shop. That means it opens early and stay open late. see their website for exact times. It is a great place to have an interesting drink on a veranda high enough to catch a late evening Texas breeze with some nice downtown views

Sightseeing
Need I say more. Friend said "why did they build it here..parking challenges!" so just to make sure...it came first. quick uber or taxi ride. it is also a good starting point when visiting downtown.

From piano bars, to edgy Dick's Last Resort; there is something for everyone. Take the river boat tour to hear about this great city from the river guides. They are fantastic

Great burger place BUT it has a unique music venue in back. Great space for seeing local artist perform Monday nights are usually swing nights. Last time I was there, a dance studio gave free swing lessons to encourage dancing before the band came out. Fun times....

You can walk to the Zoo and there are several restaurants available as well to stop for a cool drink or something to eat. Also near to the park is the Sunken Gardens. People enjoy jogging the paths. Walking along the side you can catch the river walk as well.
