Really truly delicious food. Even something like oatmeal, you might think its something so simple can't be that special, but they make it freaking amazingly delicious. Probably best I've ever had. Brown rice bowl is also a real delight, so fresh and so good. Plus the coffee is *great*. We will be back for sure.

The trail to Ragged Point Beach at the base of the cliffs is only a half mile, but steep with about a 400 foot change in elevation. Views of the beach below are incredible, as are the ever-changing views of the cliffs to the north. The dampness can make the trail somewhat slippery. The beach is rather exotic with the black sand. It is a rather common phenomenon on this section of the coast. The view of the cliffs is all the more imposing looking from the bottom up.

Hiking Trails

The 2,624-foot summit of Cerro Alto is one of the highest points in San Luis Obispo County and delivers a panoramic view. It seems like you can see the entire county from the top of the commanding peak, including each of the volcanic peaks stretching between Morro Bay and Edna Valley, the Nine Sisters. There are a couple ways to the summit, each tackling 1,600 feet of elevation between the trailhead at Cerro Alto Campground and the cerro’s summit. The shortest route is a steep 1.95-mile ascent. A more gradual trail can be taken to a junction part way up the mountain for a 2.75-mile route that is recommended for the hike up. Additionally, a spur trail out to a ridge south of the summit adds 0.65 scenic miles to the hike. These trails can all be combined for a 5.35-mile trek with high views over Los Padres National Forest, and the route following is not as complicated as it might sound.

Bishop Peak, at 1559 feet, is the highest of the Nine Sisters (or Morros) in San Luis Obispo County. The peak is the centerpiece of the Bishop Peak Nature Reserve, and can be accessed from trailheads on Patricia Drive, Highland Drive, or Foothill Road. From the trailhead on Patricia Drive, the trail starts as a wide dirt path climbing west uphill to a fenced gate, where you enter the Ferrini Open Space. At a curve in the road, turn left onto a narrow trail just after a short stretch of pavement. Staying on the paved road will lead uphill to a water tank, and the Felsman Loop Trail, which later intersects this route. Switchbacking through open oak woodland, the trail emerges into an open area near a seasonal cattle pond. Follow the main trail uphill to another cattle gate, where the signed Bishop Peak Trail branches left. The trail then goes through a shaded forest, passing a popular rock climbing area before emerging into open chaparral on the south side of Bishop Peak. A series of switchbacks lead up to the saddle between the west and east summits of the peak. At the saddle, a bench marks the end of the maintained trail. The east (and slightly lower) summit can be reached from here by a short scramble over sandstone boulders. On top, there are outstanding views of the entire San Luis Obispo area, including nearby Cerro San Luis Obispo to the east.

Discover this 8.0-mile out-and-back trail near Los Osos, California.Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 2 h 56 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. This park requires registration at the Coon Creek kiosk upon entry and exit from the trail and is not open every day. For trail hours, opens days and more information, check the website before you go. Once known as Rancho San Miguelito and Rancho Cañada de Los Osos y Pecho y Islay, this pristine area is situated just south of Coon Creek (Montana de Oro State Park) and west of the Irish Hills on California's Central Coast. This scenic coastal trail has been open to the public since 2007. The Point Buchon trail has over 9,000 years of Native American history. The magnificent headland known as Point Buchon (which means “goiter" in Spanish) was named by the Spaniards after a well-respected Chumash Chief who had a an immense goiter. This prominent headland and thus the trail were named in his honor. This land has been put to agricultural uses from the beginning of human occupation; crops were primarily grown on the coastal terrace, while livestock grazed in the hills further inland. During the 1920s and 1930s, much of the coastal terrace was leased to Japanese farmers. The Japanese continued to farm the land until 1942, when they were involuntarily relocated to internment camps established during World War II. In 1942 Oliver C. Field acquired the Spooner Ranch, which included the lands from California's Montana de Oro State Park, south to the present-day boundaries of Diablo Canyon Power Plant. Also in the 1940s, he constructed a small dam and pump house along Coon Creek, from which irrigation water was piped to agricultural fields downstream. These structures and many other sites of historic interest are visible today from the Point Buchon Trail. Eventually, Field gave up farming because of difficulties in tapping enough water to irrigate his crops. While this coastal terrace is no longer farmed, rotational grazing is currently being practiced with the use of cows, sheep and goats. Pacific Gas and Electric Company purchased the property in 1986 and opened the Point Buchon trail for everyone to enjoy. In order to preserve and maintain the diversity of the land's unique resources for generations to come, access to the trail is limited. Hikers can observe animals such as bobcats, coyotes and badgers as a result of PG&E's predator friendly ranch practices at the site. Wildflowers flourish in the springtime, a benefit of PG&E's rotational grazing practices.

Black Hill is the second to last of nine volcanic plugs that lie between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay (the last being Morro Rock itself). The hike to the top travels through Fleming's Forest, a hillside of Monterey Pine trees that were planted by John Fleming (a former park superintendent). It is rumored that Black Hill received its name due to the tar seep on the north side of the hill. This scenic and enjoyable hike can be done in just a couple of hours.
