A stunning and very old village close to Trawden. 'Ferndean Manor' in Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre is thought to be based on Wycoller Hall.[12] The Brontë Way passes through here, leading to the Brontë sisters' home in nearby Haworth. With lots to see and a cafe, this ancient village is well worth a visit! You can walk from the Atom Panopticon (search online for this) to Wycoller and if you do decide to make this walk look out for the plum and cherry trees where you can pick the fruit (around August / Sept)

The dearest and grandest old hill in the land… according to the song Old Pendle. Scene of the Lancashire Witches and the inspiration for Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings! Plenty of easy, medium and more difficult walks including the Pendle Witch 5 mile circular walk. Recharge your crystals and soak in the history with a walk up Pendle Hill and enjoy superb pub food with the two local eateries right at the foot of Pendle Hill in the pretty village of Barley.

For fans of the Brontë family this is a must place to visit. Traveling from Trawden to Haworth 'over the tops' (as we say) takes you over the moors made famous in the novel Wuthering Heights. The parsonage where the Brontë's lived which is open to the public and right the heart of Hawort, it's well worth an explore and wander. There are several pubs, cafe's and restaurants within walking distance of the parsonage plus stunning scenery and countryside.

Food scene

Owned by friends of ours and a Michelin Starred eatery! Tom Parker the chef at 'The Swan' has appeared on many TV shows and competitions inc Masterchef. The menu is incredible and I would recommend booking well in advance as it's a very busy and successful pub/restaurant.

A brilliant pub that is very close to the cottage. Always friendly, amazing food and fairly priced. A selection of real ales, wines and spirits. You can usually walk in without a booking but I would recommend you book in advance to avoid any disappointment.

Owned and run by the village, the shop really is well worth a visit. With eco-friendly refilling (herbs, spices, flour, sugar etc..) You'll find meats from the local butcher, dairy from the farm and a big choice of vegan and vegetarian foods. The wine merchant delivers some splendid choices not seen on the supermarket shelves. All fairly priced and served by lovely people!
