Austin used to be a real miss when it comes to good Italian food. Il Brutto is newish, has lots of seating, and we loved all the dishes we tried there, from pastas to lamb to snapper to a really excellent semifreddo. A pleasant surprise! Also, nice patio tables under the live oak tree out front.

Il Brutto is newish, has lots of seating, and we loved all the dishes we tried there, from pastas to lamb to snapper to a really excellent semifreddo. A pleasant surprise! The bats are thickest between March and November. Go before sundown and enjoy watching the streams of bats leaving their homes under the bridge to feed on insects along the lakeshore. A very cool sight. Enjoy it from the top of the bridge (on Congress) or cross the bridge to the little park at the foot of the bridge on south side of the river.
