Closest Ski Resort to House. Heavenly Mountain Resort is a located on the California-Nevada border in South Lake Tahoe. It has 97 runs and 30 lifts that are spread between California and Nevada and four base facilities. The resort has 4,800 acres boasting the highest elevation of the Lake Tahoe area resorts with a peak elevation of 10,067 ft (3,068 m), and a peak lift-service elevation of 10,040 ft (3,060 m). And the views from the top are spectacular.

Second closest ski resort to the cabin, with a great mix of runs for all experience levels. It's 14 miles (22 minutes) from the home. Smaller than Heavenly but typically gets more snow than Heavenly. It is a medium sized ski area and is well known for being a more family oriented resort and also having a high annual snowfall. Sierra-at-Tahoe's terrain is 25 percent beginner, 50 percent Intermediate, and 25 percent advanced. Great local resort to spend the day with the family.

Squaw Valley Ski Resort in Olympic Valley, California, is one of the largest ski areas in the United States, and was the host site of the entire 1960 Winter Olympics. Located on the north shore, Northstar is 42 miles (1 hour, 5 minutes) from the house. Northstar features 3,170 acres of terrain, with 60% of trails designated for intermediate skiers.

Homewood Mountain Resort is a ski area located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe in the state of California, a few miles south of Tahoe City in the town of Homewood. It has 1,260 acres (510 ha) of skiable terrain and seven lifts. It is the only ski resort located on the west shore. The top of the mountain offers some spectacular views of the lake. It's only 25 miles (45 minutes) from the house using highway 89, however during the winter highway 89 tends to close at Emerald Bay. Driving around the lake to Homewood along east shore via US 50 increases the drive to 50 miles (1 hour, 20 minutes).

Homewood Mountain Resort is a ski area located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe in the state of California, a few miles south of Tahoe City in the town of Homewood. It has 1,260 acres (510 ha) of skiable terrain and seven lifts. It is the only ski resort located on the west shore. The top of the mountain offers some spectacular views of the lake. It's only 25 miles (45 minutes) from the house using highway 89, however during the winter highway 89 tends to close at Emerald Bay. Driving around the lake to Homewood along east shore via US 50 increases the drive to 50 miles (1 hour, 20 minutes).

Located in the Swiss Chalet Village on Lake Tahoe Blvd, it's just short 7 minute drive from the cabin. This is a great place for drinks and comfort food, and the staff and service has always been excellent. And they get creative with their food; it's appealing to look and eat. My recommendations are their Mac and Cheese (so large it can be shared), their fish tacos, and their burgers. I've never ordered something here where we were disappointed.

I believe that this is by far the best authentic BBQ place on the south shore.

If you plan to drive around the lake to take in some sights and want to dine in a very nice establishment on the water, you must check our Gar Woods on the north shore for lunch or dinner. Do plan to make a reservation ahead of time or you may not get a table (its a very popular place). They also have a public pier so if you are boating around the lake, you can also dock your boat there while you are dining. Yes Gar Woods is on the pricy side, but you are right on the water with an unparalleled view of the lake, the food is excellent, the service is excellent, and of course try the Wet Woody (their signature drink).
