Beach walks are a favourite for refreshing sea air in this seaside Georgian gem. A stroll along the pier gives an excellent view of the town from the sea. The Conservation area has narrow streets where every house is unique and so are the doors and door knockers. WALMER CASTLE A fantastic day out. See the furnished castle and gardens. It is still used by The Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, which have in the past, included the Duke of Wellington and The Queen Mother. It has a nice cafe too. DEAL CASTLE Another interesting visit. This is a fortress in a Tudor Rose shape. TIMEBALL TOWER Once used to signal to other towers and give ships offshore the accurate time, important for using their navigational instruments. The ball goes up at 12.55pm and comes down at 1pm. There is talk it may become hourly. See the museum inside with a great view from the top!... quite a few stairs. The High Street has a selection of shops including some special ones with artisan, arty or vintage items. Find something special or unique to take home. Theres a wealth of restaurants, tea shops and wine bars, plus local pubs. I have a whole list of favourites in the house for you. Also a whole book with ideas and brochures for days out. Saturday is market day. The little farmers market at the Town Hall is on Wednesdays. Deal is a great base to discover the area. GOLF There are 5 golf courses very close by including the famous Royal St Georges which hosts The Open. EVENTS Classic motor show - May Carnival & Regatta week - July. Music eves. Classic car show. Walmer Brocante - antiques and crafts fair - August. Deal Braderie - Antiques fair along the High street - September.

A signalling tower with a fascinating museum inside on all the floors. The Time ball on top goes up at 12.55pm and comes down at 1pm. It was used to keep time by shipping anchored offshore.

A quaint historic town of timbered houses on the river Stour. The Town Museum is an interesting visit. Take a gentle stroll along the peaceful greenery of the Ropewalk following the river. See the Barbican, an ancient toll gate and enjoy the pretty little streets. This town is said to be where the legendary sandwich was invented!

Then lunch perhaps at the historic cafe The Weavers, right by the river. There is a handy Park & Ride system for car parking.

Dover Castle is an excellent full day out. The castle sits on top of the famous 'white cliffs of Dover'. This clifftop castle has hidden World War Two tunnels which are a must. In the town itself, don't miss the Dover Museum with its Bronze Age boat and the Roman Painted House. Close by are Crabble Mill and pretty riverside Kearsney Abbey park with a nice cafe and children's play area.
