Park and Playground
The north-east of Melbourne - the wedge between Darebin creek and the Yarra - has some of the most beautiful green spaces in Melbourne.
Ford Park immediately opposite the house is a beautiful open space with excellent sporting and play facilities. There is also Ford Park Dog Park in the south west corner of the park.
Darebin creek has an excellent walking/cycle track that will take you to Darebin Parklands in Alphington. Along the Yarra is the beautiful Banksia Park which is adjacent to Heide art gallery. Heidelberg Park, Heidelberg Flats and Yarra Flats are other lovely green spaces nearby.

Banksia Park sits along the Yarra and next to famous Heide art gallery. Long walks and open spaces make you feel like you've left the city. There are some picnic tables, and around October, an incredible display of blossoms in the Cherry Blossom Orchard donated by the Japanese Government.

Neighbourhoods
Surrounded by lush green parks and streets, this leafy suburban pocket is surprisingly close to the CBD. Ford Park is a central feature, including two sporting ovals and brand new clubrooms and public restrooms. In addition to BBQs and undercover picnic tables, there is an abundance of playground equipment for toddlers, a scooter track for middle schoolers, and a basket ball court and cricket net for bigger kids. Outdoor gym equipment is located on the tan track that circles the entire park.
Darebin creek is only a short walk from Ford Park, and boasts a walking and cycling track that stretches north to Northland and south to the famous Darebin parklands and the CBD. You will see lots of flora and fauna, and feel a million miles away from the city.
While Bellfield is mostly houses on quarter acre blocks, it is surrounded by major facilities, with Bellfield Mall on Bell St at the north - where you will find Aldi, Chemist Warehouse and several take aways and other shops. On the Eastern flank at Waterdale Rd is Heidelberg Repat. Oriel Rd bisects the suburb north-south, and provides the quickest way either to Ivanhoe or the city, or north to Northland Shopping Centre or Latrobe Uni.
Heidelberg shops and the Austin are in Burgundy St, and only a short bus ride up Bell st.
