Superb local wine bar with guest chefs. Not only a local gem but a London gem. The carousel of rotating chefs at this wine bar and shop are responsible for some of the city's most exciting food.

Local fail-safe for sushi in Hackney with a relaxed izakaya atmosphere. The menu is deceptively simple - the specials board is where the action is at, particularly when they have fatty tuna (o-toro) and sea urchin (uni) on.

While the best dim sum in London is to be found in Chinatown, if you’re in need of a dumpling fix this is a great, if not authentic local spot with a hip east London twist, combining traditional Chinese dishes with other popular Asian influences.

Bold, brash and boisterous regional Chinese cooking - filtered by the sensibilities and chef’s travels of (non-Chinese) owners. A good-time restaurant with a bright retro 80s decor and great cocktails.

unassuming from the outside, Casa Fofo actually has 1 Michelin star and possibly the best-value tasting menu in London right now (under £50 for 8 courses). Just a hop and skip away across the park.

Stoke Newington with its bohemian charm is a more chilled and residential than the neighbouring Hackney, benefitting from two leafy parks, Clissold Park and Abney Park. Church Street is at the heart of the area, where you’ll find numerous independent shops and cafés to enjoy. You can buy your groceries at Stoke Newington farmers’ market, London’s only all-organic market.
