Established in 1974 to preserve and revitalize the language, culture, arts, spirituality, and traditions of the Anishinaabe people of Mnidoo Mnising (Manitoulin Island) and surrounding areas. Open to the public.

Museum building is part of the Gore Bay court complex and served as the Manitoulin District Jail and jailer’s residence until 1945. It is one of the few remaining Ontario jails which has retained many of its original features. It has now been converted into a museum that displays the history of local early settlers.
