Carnfunnock is a 5-minute drive from your door. Open all year is the Parklands Café, the walled garden with its unique collection of sundials, a maze, a shop, a maritime-themed adventure play park, picnic tables a fitness trail and way-marked walks. From the end of March to October the family fun zone is open with more family activities including crazy golf, a miniature train ride, bouncy castles, bungee trampolines, a merry-go-round, face painting and glitter tattoos. The views from the walks are spectacular. No trip to Carnfunnock is complete without a visit to Cairndhu House, the ‘haunted hospital’, near the wildlife garden. The haunted hospital stars in many YouTube videos and isn’t for the faint hearted. Carnfunnock Country Park has something for everyone – coffee, play, walks, fresh air and a new monthly market! The market is held in the safari tent (beside the adventure play park) from 11am – 2pm on the last Sunday of every month. There’s a variety of home baked and homemade goods available, it also supporting local businesses. Check out the website. Carnfunnock has a large variety of special events running through the year that may be of interest.

Visit Ballygally - a 10-minute drive from your base. Ballygally beach is a stunning sandy beach, one of the most beautiful on the north coast. On your way up the coast drive through the Black Arch tunnel and stop to take a photograph with the famous Ballygally Polar Bear. Visit Ballygally Castle, the most haunted hotel in Europe. Have a drink in the lounge and explore their beautiful garden. Read about the spooky history of the castle. Are you brave enough to visit the ghost room? Ballygally has a huge number of cold-water swimming devotees. No matter what the weather, the Ballygally Chilli dippers can be seen bobbing about in the water. They will tell you about the fabulous health benefits of having a dip. Consider giving it a go. The locals say that a moonlit dip at Ballygally is like food for your soul. If it’s cold, it can take a little time to get in, however once you’re in, you won’t want to get out. Pop into the shop opposite the beach for a post swim, take away, hot drink and warm up from the inside. Ballygally also has a newly renovated children’s play park behind the car park. The shop sells locally made Maud’s ice-cream. Other highly recommended nearby restaurants include The Halfway House and Mattie’s Meeting House.
