WE 💙 MANCHESTER

I lived in many places and I would say Manchetser combines many unique traits from cities all over the world. The busy street life of New York, the artistry & grafitti's of Melbourne and the canals you would only find in Amsterdam or Copenhagen - all in one city. Along with its English pub culture.💙 The city has a very walkable centre, squeezed between the rivers Irwell, Medlock and Irk. Albert Square and the Town Hall mark the administrative centre. A short distance east is Chinatown, with its arch, restaurants, supermarkets and other shops, services and banks. East again is the Gay Village, along the Rochdale Canal, a once run down area, which has been revived through the power of the Pink Pound. . Immediately north of the Town Hall is the Half Square Mile, Manchester’s ‘City’, where the banks, lawyers and top companies have their offices. Manchester’s upmarket shopping area, stretches from King Street, through St Ann’s Square to Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and the Triangle. Nearby is the Cathedral, the medieval Chetham’s School and the huge bulk of the 20,500 capacity Manchester Evening News Arena. Out of St Ann’s Square onto Market Street, and you are into mid-range shopping, with the massive Arndale Centre mall dwarfing all around. Market Street opens out to the revamped Piccadilly Gardens which skirts the Northern Quarter, an area of independent businesses: bars, shops, art galleries, record stores and music venues plus several first class Indian cafes.

Neighbourhoods

The Norther Quarter is probaly the most known, exciting and authentic area of Manchester. It reminds me of a mix of New York & Melbourne. Very hip area with countless restaurants, bars & hidden gems. You will see impressive street art, crazy grafitis and some influencer worthy sights here. Wander through its labyrinthine streets adorned with vibrant street art, where independent boutiques, vintage stores, and record shops create a tapestry of unique finds. This neighborhood pulses with creativity, housing art galleries, cozy cafes, and live music venues that define Manchester's alternative scene. Dive into the local coffee culture at one of the many hip cafes or explore the diverse culinary landscape with an array of eateries serving everything from artisanal pizzas to international street food. As the sun sets, the Northern Quarter comes alive with an electric nightlife. Dive into the underground music scene in one of the iconic venues, or unwind in a quirky bar that captures the essence of Manchester's cultural diversity. Don't miss the Afflecks Palace, a multi-story emporium where you can discover vintage treasures, handmade crafts, and unique souvenirs. NQ is more than a neighborhood; there is always something going on and with it's artistic spirit and the independent flair it really represents the soul of Manchester.

Ancoats is a very new area with calming walking paths, cozy cafes & countless canals. It reminds me a lot of the Copenhagen canals with it's houseboats and bike ways. If you want to take a relaxing walk by the canal this one is a must! At the same time you will step into Manchesters's industrial past, where history meets innovation in the vibrant neighborhood of Ancoats. Once the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, this district has transformed into a trendy and dynamic hub, blending heritage with contemporary living. Meander through cobbled streets lined with red-brick warehouses, now repurposed into chic apartments, stylish offices, and artisanal shops. Ancoats is a haven for food enthusiasts, boasting an impressive array of eateries that range from Michelin-starred restaurants to trendy cafes serving up gastronomic delights. Explore cutting-edge art spaces and creative studios that contribute to the neighborhood's eclectic atmosphere, reflecting Manchester's progressive spirit. The canal-side walks offer a serene escape, providing a contrast to the urban buzz. For a taste of local history, visit the Victoria Baths, a stunning example of Edwardian architecture that transports you to a bygone era. Ancoats is not just a neighborhood; it's a testament to Manchester's resilience and reinvention. Immerse yourself in its unique character, savor the diverse culinary offerings, and witness the harmonious blend of the past and present in this captivating corner of the city. Your stay in Ancoats promises a journey through time, where industrial heritage meets contemporary flair in every brick and cobblestone.
