If you watch Inspector Montalbano and find yourself in Punta Secca, where his ‘home’ is, try and eat in Enzo’s. It is the only place in the area like it, a wooden, open air shack over the beach.

One of my favourite days out is to drive east down the coast to Marzememi. I like to follow the coastal road all the way, the last 20 minutes crosses beautiful wetlands. My preferred restaurant is Taverna la Cialoma! You can sit by the sea or in the square.
There are wonderful natural reserves just to the north called Vendicari.

On the weekends you can have lunch in the idyllic countryside, at Petrolo donkey farm. Wonderful when it is not too hot. Make sure you ask for a table outside. The lunch is several courses with wine for €20.
You can make a reservation with Valentina 00 39 366 1727175.
Take the road past the cemetery and then the right-hand fork, follow the road until you see a small sign marked Petrolo and turn left, it is a beautiful 10 minute drive to the farm.

There is a long sand beach in Samperi. Follow via via San Giuseppe and turn left up the hill, follow the curvy road up and signs to Samperi. When you reach the small roundabout in Samperi take the third exit and follow the road east along the sea. After a few minutes you will see a broken traffic light above the road, on the right is a very small road which will take you all the way onto the rocks next to the beach called Pissotto.

If you are on the road from Donna Lucata, 5 mins before Marina Ragusa, on the left you will see a sign saying reserva naturale and a small, closed road. You can park here and walk down to the beach.
