Filling Station is a great drive-thru place to pop in before getting on the freeway. They serve Olympia Coffee and homemade pastries and other goodies. It's also the location of several food trucks and it's basically one of a very few food-truck locations in Olympia.

We absolutely love this little Mexican restaurant in the 222 Market building. Their food is excellent and they have a fantastic, balanced perfecta margarita. Plus they are just so nice and so cool.

A visit to Olympia really isn't complete unless you take some time to stroll among the impressive classical architecture and some surprising mid-century and contemporary buildings and hidden gems of the whole campus. And a lovely trail behind the Temple of Justice switches back down to the "lake" (it's actually a dammed river estuary) for a 1.5 mile stroll with other parks and trails branching out from there.

Boston Harbor Marina is a great place to grab a snack, a beer or cider, or some basic lunch and sit out on the deck overlooking the marina and a beautiful stretch of the Salish Sea looking North. It's just a mile or so past Burfoot Park which is also a great spot to stop and walk the best pebble beach in Olympia.

Just one of our very favorite places on the Peninsula. Spend a whole day there but don't miss going into Port Townsend on your way in or out.

This is a easy/moderate hike to beautiful Lena Lake. It's outside the Olympic National Park so there are dogs allowed on the trails. It can be pretty busy but it's just a solid and accessible hike and the drive along Hood Canal and through Potlatch State Park and Hoodsport offers some nice stops and shopping or food along the way.

Mt. Rainier (Tahoma) is a spectacular, unforgettable geologic wonderland. Many trails can be accessed in the National Park. We love the High Skyline trail during the summer and early fall.

This is an amazing hike on the flanks of Mt. Rainier (Tahoma) out of the Sunrise Visitor Center. Check for road closures. There are multiple great hikes available here late-spring to fall.
