Hands down, the BEST bakery in Vermont. I love the almond croissants. Filled with apricot jam. The coffee is perfectly rich and dark. Fruit tarts, sandwhiches, delicious soups. They are only open until 2, though so go early!

We love doing a 'staycation'' by making a day trip to the Northeast Kingdom. One of our favorite places to eat is Parker Pie. Yummy pizza, great family scene, and a lovely way to rest after enjoying the area.

Sightseeing

Adamant is a magical little village, just 4 miles from our house. The coop is the oldes-t in the country. Grab a scone or sandwhich, sit by the waterfall and put your feet in the water. On Fridays throughout the summer, meet the locals at a community cookout.

This historic saw mill is located near Maple Corners and Curtis Pond. We like checking out the mill pond and all the gearing, imagining what life was like more than a century ago, when it wasn't so easy to get a lumber for building a home. The sawmill is on a lovely loop walk or an enjoyable bike ride from the yurt.

Parks & Nature

Only 10 minutes from the yurt, Curtis Pond is a sweet little spot for a quick dip, longer swim or shady spot to read a book. Bring a boat and enjoy a paddle!

The North Branch Nature Center has a special place in my heart. The walking trails along the river connect to local trails that go for miles. The mix of forest, fields, and water make it a birding hotspot. Thee educators at NBNC always have something interesting going on for people of all ages, regardless of season.

Who knew historic quarries would make an incredible place to bike, ski and walk? This is a very cool spot, worth a visit. You'll get a real taste of local history. Combine it with a visit to Rock of Ages quarry for a glimpse into the life of stoneworkers and the influence the industry had on Central Vermont.

Cool, clean water, loons, a boat launch and small beach, surrounded by a network of dirt roads make this a perfect place to spend a summer afternoon.

The East Montpelier Trails are one of the main reasons we live where we do. A network of dirt roads and trails, so close to town, make living where we do a joy. There are miles and miles we can travel by foot or bike, connecting us to Montpelier, Adamant, Calais, Hardwick and all points in every direction, with little traffic. http://emtrails.org/map/
