The park has hiking trails, a beach on Canopus Lake, and fishing on four ponds and two lakes. Most of the park is situated in northern Putnam County between the Taconic State Parkway and U.S. Route 9.

Most of the park is situated in northern Putnam County between the Taconic State Parkway and U.S. Route 9.
Appalachian Trail is the longest hiking-only footpath in the world. From Maine to Georgia, cutting across 14 states. The trail also cuts straight though the middle of Putnam Valley. A great leg of the trail to join is around the north of Canopus Lake in Clarence Fahnestock State Park.

The lake is fed by a stream from its north end and it drains through a stream at the middle of its eastern shore that borders our property. Enjoy Lake life at its best.
The area was home to Babe Ruth during the Prohibition years and more recently featured as the "The Sapranos" Adirondack Lake house.
