Best vegan cafe in Newfoundland! Fabulous desserts and when able, hold art exhibitions by local artists, and live music. Let's all hope that Sue and Dave find the perfect buyer for 2023

The set menu dining experience is just lovely, and not crazy expensive as one would think. The greens come from their own greenhouse, fisherman supply them with fresh fish and whatever is in season. Reservations are necessary for the two nightly servings. At 5:30 and 7:30. They have covered all their bases for indoor dining during covid. If you book the late sitting, drive home safe, watch out for the moose.

Sightseeing
It takes a good week to take in most of the Bonavista Peninsula but if you only have a few days, here are my personal recommendations of must do!
This hike is a “must do” on your visit to the Bonavista Peninsula. It’s breathtaking, not difficult, (medium), with views that astound. Especially if the whales are out!!!

When Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto (or John Cabot as he is locally known) first set eyes on North America in 1497, his first words were “O buono vista!” When translated into English, this phrase means “Oh happy sight!”, which is certainly fitting for what would become the town of Bonavista, the historic site of Cabot's landing.
But. Much more important.
I gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather is Ktaqmkuk, traditional unceded Mi’kmaw territory, and I further acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of this province.
Discovery Geopark has become Newfoundland and Labrador’s first United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized Global Geopark. With this distinction, Discovery Geopark becomes the fifth UNESCO Global Geopark in Canada, joining 161 other geosites to receive this recognition throughout the world.
Located on the tip of the Bonavista Peninsula, the Discovery Geopark covers approximately 280 kilometres of coastline from Southern Bay to Bonavista, with 10 developed geosites that showcase the region’s diverse geological, natural and cultural diversity. Two geosites in Port Union contain Ediacaran fossils – some nearly 600 million years old, while the geosite located at Murphy’s Cove to Lodge’s Pond Trail is where internationally renowned Haootia quadriformis was discovered. This is the first fossilized evidence of muscular tissue, and possibly the oldest animal fossil in the world. Haootia is currently on display at The Rooms provincial museum.
UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.

A 20 minute drive from Bonavista. Interesting museums. The Factory, with its original printing press and information about Sir William Coaker. UHA is just down the street and you must take a walk up the hill to see the abandoned former union workers houses being restored, piece by piece. Great place for photos.
