Sightseeing

Yapahuwa was the capital of Sri Lanka in the 13th century. Interesting ruins and stone carvings remain, as well as stunning views from the top of Yapahuwa Rock. Can be done as a day tour from Kalpitiya, or when on your way to somewhere else on the island.

Jaffna is like nowhere else in Sri Lanka. The population is mostly Tamil and Hindu, and there is a fascinating Hindu temple there. If you're heading to Jaffna, Kalpitiya is a nice, scenic spot to break up the long journey.

Entertainment & Activities

This is the number one spot for kite surfers in the region. And even if you don't kite surf, it's fun to watch. You can find some shade at one of the kite huts (one or two of them sell refreshments) or go to Lak Laguna Bar and Restaurant and enjoy the view, on the southeast side of the lagoon.
