The historic adobe mansion built in 1930's is surrounded by preserved native subtropical thorn brush, which in turn provides safe urban habitat for birds, both native and migrating. It is beautiful and accessible. You do not have to be a birder to enjoy the place.

I know everyone loves the South Padre Island Beach, but the birding center is an absolute do not miss destination. The walkway takes you through the bay side. Beautiful scenery, peaceful, birds and some alligator excitement. Apparently it recently became an alligator sanctuary. They were so numerous, at first I thought they were fake!

You haven't experienced true tamales until you try Delia's. With multiple locations throughout the valley, it sure is the local favorite. I like the chicken and cheese. Their salsas are to die for.
