It's refreshing and fun to drive out towards a different kind of nature, especially since the Sierra Nevada usually has snow from November until May. I love going out here just for the day. And the snow is just invigorating!

Granada is a romantic and highly cultured city located between mountains. It's famous as a university town, and also for the Alhambra, which is the first UNESCO World Heritage site in Spain. The narrow and winding streets of Albayzin and the surrounding areas are my favorite neighborhoods for walking around. It's just 30 minutes by car from La Esperanza Granada.

This pretty town has a look-out point from which you can enjoy views across the whole valley. On Sundays, there is a weekend market right on the ridge. There is also a nice cafe with an outdoor terrace that's perfect for a sunset drink.

The beautiful town of Lanjaron is just a short drive away. Nestled in the Alpujarras Mountains, it has elegant buildings, interesting souvenir shops and good restaurants. A trip here is also a nice way to learn more about this historic former fiefdom of the Moors.
